Freund Corporation launches environmentally friendly food preservative "Antimold-Mild® EF" Product 2023.11.09

Freund Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Iwao Fusejima) has developed and launched the industry's first environmentally friendly food preservative "Antimold-Mild® EF" using the biodegradable resin "BioPBS™" made by Mitsubishi Chemical Group* as a packaging material.

During our corporate activities under the vision of "Contributing to better medical care and health for people worldwide, and creating and fostering technologies for fulfilling lives and food safety.", we have been developing new products that contribute to building a sustainable society.

“BioPBS™” is the Mitsubishi Chemical Group's plant-based biodegradable resin that decomposes into water and carbon dioxide with microorganisms in nature. Antimold-Mild® is made from powderized ethanol and filled in packet. And when packaged with confectionery or bread, the evaporating ethanol gas inhibits the growth of microorganisms in food products, preventing the growth of mold and other problems.

By using “BioPBS™” for the inner surface and paper for the outer surface of Antimold-Mild®EF packet, the entire packet is composed of biodegradable materials. And the biomass content has increased from 63% (the current product) to 83%.
In addition to the conventional performance of keeping food products longer and contributing to the reduction of food loss, Antimold-Mild®EF can also biodegrade after the body is discarded to reduce environmental impact.
This product an item that further contributes to the realization of a sustainable society.

-The industry's first
We are the first in the industry to use of plant-derived biodegradable resin in the sealant layer of ethanol evaporation agents. Antimold-Mild®EF is designed so that the ethanol evaporation rate is the same as that of the current product, so it is environmentally friendly while maintaining the same bacteriostatic effect as a food preservative and the same performance in maintaining the product moistness.

-High Biomass
By replacing petroleum-derived plastic used in the product with “BioPBS™”,
a plant-derived biodegradable resin, Antimold-Mild EF is made from biomass
materials of 83%, compared to 63% in the current product.

Freund Corporation, as a R&D-oriented company, will continue to develop and provide value-added products and work toward the realization of a sustainable society from various aspects through its corporate activities.
